If you’ve never been to a therapist before, you might wonder what to expect. If you’ve been in therapy in the past, you may wonder how my style and approach differ from your previous therapist.
15 Minute Phone Consultation:
· We’ll briefly discuss what you’d like to address in therapy and decide if seems like we might work well together.
· I’ll let you know what days and times are available for sessions.
· I’ll ask for your contact information and we’ll schedule an intake session.
The First Session:
• When you schedule an appointment with me, you'll get a link to set up a secure client portal, which will allow you to complete and sign your intake paperwork before we meet.
• The first session is 75 minutes; after that, the sessions are 50 minutes.
• I recommend weekly sessions when you first start therapy to gain momentum working on the concerns that brought you in.
• The first session focuses on clarifying the issues you want to address in treatment and determining if we're a good fit to work together.
• Payment is due at the time of service, and I accept cash, checks, and credit cards for in-person sessions and credit cards for telehealth sessions.
Working with me:
You may have seen media portrayals of therapy sessions that depict dramatic confrontations and big “AHA!” moments. Working with me is not like that.
I’m observant and a careful listener. I’ll help you slow down and pay attention to what you’re thinking, feeling, doing, and how that’s related to the concerns that brought you in for therapy.
I’ll give you honest feedback in a respectful, compassionate way.
Although the things that come up in therapy are serious and sometimes painful, I use gentle humor and imagery to help make talking about difficult issues a little easier.
You are the expert on your experiences. I'll help you draw connections between the past and the present, recognize patterns in how you relate to yourself and others and work with you to develop a roadmap for change.
